Documentary "Endless Corridor" dedicated to the Khojaly genocide screened in Kyiv with the participation of the author
Victims of the Khojaly genocide remembered in in Kyiv on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the tragedy.
The evening of remembrance, organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine and held at the Zhovten cinema in Kyiv, was attended by members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice of Ukraine, ambassadors and diplomats accredited in Ukraine, the leadership of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, as well as Ukrainian historians, scientists, teaching and student staff of higher educational institutions, activists of Azerbaijani diaspora organizations, and representatives of the media.
Ambassador Seymur Mardaliyev provided the participants with detailed information about the Khojaly genocide, and also told how on the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed forces, supported by the 366th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the former Soviet Army, occupied the city of Khojaly and committed mass murders of civilians. It was highlighted that 613 people died on that bloody night, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 elderly people, eight families were completely destroyed, 25 children were orphaned, 1,275 people were taken prisoner, and the fate of 150 of them is still unknown.
Then, Lithuanian journalist Richard Lapaitis, one of the main creators of the documentary “Endless Corridor”, shared his memories of what he saw and experienced in Agdam in late February and early March 1992.
